The short version. We collect what you type into the interview, your email, and basic analytics. Your stories are used to make your song and nothing else. We do not sell your data, we do not publish your song or your story without your explicit permission, and we do not use your answers to train AI models. Email [email protected] and we will delete everything.
What we collect
- What you tell us in the interview: the recipient's name, your relationship, memories, messages, musical preferences, and any phrase you ask us to include.
- Your email address, so we can deliver the song and reach you about the order.
- Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We receive only the amount, currency, and confirmation of payment.
- A review, if you choose to leave one, along with whether you gave permission to publish it.
- Basic usage analytics: pages visited, which buttons were clicked, approximate location by country, and device type, via Google Analytics and (if enabled) the Meta pixel. This is used to understand which parts of the site work.
Your voice recording (the "sung in your own voice" add-on)
If you choose the "Your own voice" option, you record or upload a short singing sample. This is biometric-adjacent data and we treat it that way: your sample is used only to create a voice model that sings your songs — never anyone else's songs, never for advertising, and never to train AI models. The voice model is created by our music provider (Mureka) and stored on their systems solely under our account; the original recording is stored on ours. We only create the voice model after you complete checkout and only with the consent you give at recording time. Email [email protected] any time and we will delete both the recording and the voice model.
What we use it for
- Writing and producing your song, and delivering it to you.
- Emailing you about your order — the delivery, a check-in afterward, a request for a review, and a reminder if the occasion comes round again. Every one of those emails has a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing never affects delivery of something you paid for.
- Answering you when you write to us.
- Understanding, in aggregate, how the site is used.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone, for any purpose.
- We do not use your stories to train AI models. Your answers are sent to our processors solely to generate your song.
- We do not publish your song, your lyrics, your name, or your story unless you have explicitly given permission — and if you later change your mind, we take it down.
Who we share it with
Only the processors needed to make the thing work, each of which receives the minimum required:
- Anthropic — receives your interview answers to generate lyrics.
- Our music generation provider — receives the lyrics and style instructions to produce the recording.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- SendGrid — email delivery.
- Railway and Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery.
- Google Analytics, and Meta if pixel tracking is enabled — aggregate usage measurement.
We will also disclose information if legally compelled to, and we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.
How long we keep it
Order records and song files are kept indefinitely so that your gift page keeps working — people come back to these years later, and a dead link would be a poor gift. If you would rather we did not, ask and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Deletion: email [email protected] and we will delete your order, your answers, your song, and your email address. We aim to do this within 30 days.
- Access or correction: ask and we will send you what we hold, or fix it.
- Email: unsubscribe from the link at the bottom of any non-transactional email.
- Analytics: browser Do Not Track and ad-blocking extensions are respected by the analytics providers named above; we do not attempt to work around them.
- If you are in California, the EU or the UK, you have additional rights over access, portability, correction and erasure. Use the same email address and we will honour them.
Children
SongWeaver is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Songs are frequently written about children by their parents, which is fine — the buyer is the adult.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Order data lives on an access-controlled server volume. Gift pages are unlisted but not password-protected, so anyone holding the link can open the page — share it deliberately.
